Types of Opening Title Sequence
There are three different types of opening title sequence that a film can take, each of which can give different effects on the film's storyline. The three types are:
Linear - The story is told in a chronological order; often used to establish the story without confusing the viewer.
Non-Linear - The story is told in a non-chronological order; often used to add suspense without explaining the details of the story to the viewer, therefore keeping them in suspense. Such an example of this is seen in the opening of Saw II, where the viewer gradually finds out why the person involved is in the place he is
Symbolic - This type of opening title sequence uses a theme that is referenced throughout the later film.
